El Nido del Fénix · A Full Childhood
El Nido del Fénix is a respectful early childhood environment located in Soto del Real, in the Sierra de Madrid. We accompany children from 1 to 6 years old in a natural, warm and carefully prepared environment where they can grow at their own pace, develop their autonomy and discover the world through curiosity, play and experience.
Our approach is based on a deep trust in each child’s potential. We understand that every person has their own rhythm, needs and unique way of developing, and that our role as adults is not to direct this process, but to create the conditions that allow it to unfold.
Free play and spontaneous activity play a fundamental role in our everyday life. Through play, children explore, create, build relationships, resolve conflicts, express their emotions and develop their own understanding of the world. Adults accompany them through presence, observation and attentive listening, stepping in when necessary to provide safety, support their processes and establish clear boundaries that allow for healthy coexistence.
Our educational approach draws from different active and respectful education traditions, including Montessori pedagogy, the work of Emmi Pikler, nature-based education and forest school approaches, together with our own perspective focused on human development and relationships.
We place great importance on the prepared environment. Our space is built with natural materials and surrounded by a large garden with trees, a vegetable garden and many opportunities for exploration and movement. Nature is not an occasional activity but an integral part of our everyday life: we go outside, observe, experiment, get muddy, care for plants, climb, run and learn to relate to the living world.
We also place particular value on the presence of the adult. We believe that accompanying children requires those around them to cultivate their own ability to be present, observe, listen and relate from a place of calm. We therefore understand education as a deeply human and relational process.
We also integrate organic bilingualism into everyday life, without turning language learning into an academic demand, while paying close attention to children’s rhythms, sensitive periods, movement, autonomy and emotional wellbeing.
El Nido was born from the desire to create a place that cares not only for children, but also for the people who accompany them.
We believe that caring for childhood means caring for life. And that offering children time, connection, freedom, boundaries, nature and presence is a way of contributing to a more human and conscious world.
