La Matriz defines itself as a learning community that places the focus of learning on the initiative and real-life experiences of the children; it is created through the very growth of its members – including pupils, staff and families – and, in turn, serves as a source of growth for its members and the surrounding community.
We currently cover the second cycle of pre-primary, primary and the first cycle of secondary education, that is, from 3 to 14 years of age.
The school’s teaching approach is based on active and experiential learning methods, with a focus on Montessori, Forest School and Inquiry-Based Learning. These methodologies are adapted to the children’s needs, not the other way round.
The school aims to be a resource that meets the needs of children and their families, within a respectful and welcoming environment for both them and their carers. Furthermore, the school aims to be a catalyst for social and educational change, working towards a freer, fairer and more respectful society for all its members.
To this end, the school offers a family school, a space for family activities, and initiatives to support work-life balance, including a co-working space where parents can work whilst the children are in class.
We also offer work experience placements for carers.
We are organised on a sociocratic basis. Whilst there is a management circle that ensures the continuity and coherence of the project, pupils, carers and families have their own spaces with decision-making power in key areas of the project and matters that affect them.
