About Roots and Wings
We are a bilingual English-Spanish immersion program designed for children aged 2–5 years. Our classroom is truly bilingual, with native Spanish speakers always present alongside English facilitators. This creates a rich, engaging environment where young learners naturally absorb both English and Spanish through play, interaction, and exploration. Skills in music, movement, art, literacy, and numeracy emerge organically as by-products of this carefully crafted setting, in a warm, relaxed, and nurturing atmosphere that honours children’s innate curiosity and love of learning.

At our core, we cherish a genuine family feel. Parents and volunteers play a vital role, forming the heart of our community and enabling us to welcome families from all backgrounds.
We draw inspiration from pioneering approaches in alternative education — particularly Maria Montessori and Forest School philosophies — blending these principles with decades of hands-on experience. The result is a balanced, practical program that overcomes the limitations of traditional early education while nurturing each child’s unique interests, strengths, and passions.
Sessions are thoughtfully supported with a high adult-to-child ratio, allowing for a seamless mix of structured play-based activities and child-led free exploration. Weekly outdoor days in a beautiful nearby park are a highlight, giving children ample space to connect with nature.
Our ultimate goal is to build confidence, competence, and creativity, laying a strong foundation for children to thrive and positively contribute to the world around them.
Roots and Wings operates under the license of our established evening language school, Ella’s English (specialising in primary-aged students). We launched in October 2025 with just three children — and we’d love for your family to join our growing community.
Our Team
Bianca, our Director, brings more than 20 years of experience teaching primary-aged children (3–11) at some of Europe’s most respected international schools. As a gifted and compassionate facilitator, she has a special talent for bringing out the very best in every child.
Mark, came to teaching as a second career. After several years as a teaching assistant, he completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Education with the University of Nottingham and went on to teach PE and Geography — with a particular passion for outdoor learning.
When our youngest son was born, we searched for an educational approach that truly matched our values. Unfortunately, the local alternative provision he attended closed, so we decided to create our own. Roots and Wings was born from that vision — a project that lets us teach in the way we believe best serves young children.
